Epizootic situation

A total of 127 highly dangerous animal disease outbreaks were reported in 18 countries in the world. Relevant notifications were published on the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) site.

A total of 382 notifications about highly dangerous animal disease outbreaks were sent to the World Animal Health Organization (OIE) from 25 countries for the period from December 19 to 25, 2020.

In 2020 the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) received notifications of aquatic animal diseases in various countries worldwide. The analysis of the 2020 epidemic situation revealed that such countries as Estonia, Iraq, Belize, USA, Japan, Norway, Canada, Greece, Croatia, Denmark, Iran had suffered serious economic losses from infectious diseases of aquatic animals.

Outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported in Ireland according to the information received from the Irish Veterinary Service. Due to aggravated HPAI situation in the European Union, according to the Rosselkhoznadzor assessment, as well as due to geographical proximity of Ireland to HPAI-infected Great Britain it was decided to impose temporary restrictions on import of poultry products posing HPAI risk from the whole territory of Ireland to prevent possible entry of the said unsafe products to Russia. The Rosselkhoznadzor is awaiting information on measures taken for HPAI outbreak spreading prevention and eradication from the Competent Authority of Ireland.

Advisor to the Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Nikita Lebedev and specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor-subordinate Federal Center for Animal Health took part in an online meeting of the Standing Group of Experts on Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in the Asia-Pacific region under the umbrella of GF TADs in September. The aim of the meeting was to discuss issues of LSD diagnosis, epizootology and control in the Asia-Pacific countries.

The opening meeting of the Rosselkhoznadzor officials and Directorate-General Auditors of Health and Food Safety of EU Commission (DG SANTE) was held in the Rosselkhoznadzor today. The purpose of the visit will be conducting assessment (audit) of the Russian control system for fishery products intended for export to the European Union.

On May 12, 2018 the Conference of the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on cooperation in the field of joint prevention, control and monitoring of transboundary epizootic diseases was held in Xi’an (China). It was organized by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province.
