European Auditors Completed their Activities in Russia

On September 13, 2013 the discussion of preliminary results of EU Commission mission in Russia took place in the Rosselkhoznadzor. The European Commission was presented by veterinary inspectors of Food and Veterinary Office under Directorate General for Health and Consumers (DG SANCO) Graham Wood and Miguel Mendes.

The target of the European auditors’ mission was the inspection and evaluation of control system functioning in the Russian Federation which regulates fish products destined for export into the European Union.  In accordance with the program prepared by the FGBI “National Centre for Safety of Fishery and Aquaculture Products” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor the European auditors visited the Astrakhan oblast, Primorsky krai and port of Busan, the biggest port in the Republic of Korea. In the course of the visit the European inspectors got an insight into the procedures of official control for safety assurance of fish products destined for export to the EU countries performed directly at fish processing plants and ships. Besides the inspectors visited the Rosselkhoznadzor laboratories where they studied test procedures. The European Commission auditors thanked the Rosselkhoznadzor for the arrangement of the mission aimed at the check of compliance with the EU requirements.

The EC auditors will timely submit a detailed report on the results of performed inspection to the Rosselkhoznadzor which will include detected deficiencies and recommendations.

The Rosselkhoznadzor’s representatives expressed their satisfaction with the constructive work of the European inspectors in Russia and noted that this visit facilitated improvement of the control system functioning in Russia. The Rosselkhoznadzor’s representatives assured the European party that they would take all appropriate measures to remove detected deficiencies within the shortest possible time.
