On September 28, a working meeting was held in Moscow between the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Argentine Republic to the Russian Federation Eduardo Antonio Zuain. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture took part in the event from the Russian side.
Sergey Dankvert, who is the Сo-chairman of the Russian-Argentine Intergovernmental Commission, stressed that business and trade relations between the countries are steadily developing and are characterized by mutual trust and respect.
Exports of agricultural products from Argentina in 2021, according to the Federal Customs Service, amounted to 588.9 million US dollars in monetary terms as of September 24, which is 8.4% higher than in the same period last year (543.2 million US dollars). The volume of crustacean supplies increased from 3.9 thousand tons to 6.5 thousand tons. Exports of butter (9.1 thousand tons), cheeses and cottage cheese (8.9 thousand tons), frozen fish (10.6 thousand tons), offal (23.3 thousand tons) are at a consistently high level. About 60 thousand tons of citrus fruits and 78.5 thousand tons of apples, pears and quinces, 23.5 thousand tons of peanuts were imported to Russia.
At the same time, taking into account market conditions, declining demand and measures taken by the Government of Argentina to curb beef prices, the volume of exported cattle meat to Russia has decreased. At the same time, more than 40 Argentine establishments are authorized to import beef to the Russian market.
Traditionally, Russia is a buyer of Argentine soybean meal. In 2021, 159 thousand tons of the product were exported from Argentina, but the potential is much higher. According to the Rosselkhoznadzor, against the background of active development of the meat industry in the country and with an appropriate pricing policy, the volume of imported soybean meal from Argentina used in animal feeding can be increased 2-3 times in the future.
Eduardo Zuain highly appreciated the level of business cooperation between Russia and Argentina, and expressed hope for the comprehensive development of partnership relations between the countries.
The Ambassador thanked Sergey Dankvert for his assistance in expanding trade opportunities, in particular, authorization of 10 more Argentine establishments to export fish products to Russia.
Eduardo Zayn asked to consider the possibility of conducting video inspections to authorize new companies interested in exports of meat and dairy products to Russia. The Ambassador also invited the Rosselkhoznadzor delegation to visit Argentina and hold a face-to-face discussion of topical issues of cooperation between representatives of competent authorities. It was noted that the epidemiological situation in the country can facilitate the visit. Argentina has managed to achieve significant success in the fight against the new coronavirus infection, including using the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, which is in high demand and trusted among Argentines.
In addition, it was emphasized that Argentina intends both to increase the volume of exports to Russia of traditionally supplied goods - meat products, wines and soybeans, and to open new areas of trade. In particular, with the view of the pet food situation in Russia, Argentina will consider the promising possibility of exporting such products to Russia.
