Imported Pet Food With Incompliances in Raw Material Composition Stated on Label and in Certificate to be Returned to Consignor

Laboratory testing of pet food imported to Russia from EU countries in some cases showed unreliable certification as regards the composition stated on the label, and also confirmed the facts of using raw materials of unknown origin. In particular, that concerns the detection of animal DNA in the raw materials not declared in the composition, or, conversely, the DNA of an animal, the raw materials from which are declared in the composition, but were not detected during testing.

In addition, there is often no label indication of the animal species from which the component of animal origin is derived.

Lack of information regarding actual composition of the feed and the origin of the raw materials used raises reasonable concerns about the safety of such goods, taking into account the unfavorable epidemic situation in some EU countries with respect to animal and avian infectious diseases.

Doubts regarding the effectiveness of official control in the EU countries over safe raw materials of animal origin and the heat treatment types used in the feed production were confirmed during inspections conducted by the Rosselkhoznadzor specialists in Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, France, Czech Republic.

Taking into account the above, the Rosselkhoznadzor informs the interested agencies, certifying agencies and business operators that in case of detection of deficiencies and incompliances in the labeling as regards the composition ingredients during the Rosselkhoznadzor’s control, these consignments will be returned to the consignor starting from October 1, 2021.
