Quarantine Pests Detected in Imported Quarantinable Products

From 18 to 24 January 2021, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (the Rosselkhoznadzor) detected 11 quarantine pests (in 66 cases) in the imported quarantinable products. The infested products are not approved for import into the country in order to avoid spread of those pests, since they pose a threat for agriculture. 

Detection of unsafe plant products and prevention of their imports are regulated by a policy ensuring phytosanitary safety of Russia and reducing penetration of pests, weeds and plant diseases into the country.

Information on biological peculiarities and hazards posed by the pests:

-Oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck.): detected in one case over the past week.

-Western flower thrips (WFT) (Frankliniella occidentalis): detected in 18 cases.

- Bruchid beetle (Callosobruchus sp.): detected in 10 cases.

-Ivy-leaved morning glory (Ipomoea hederacea L.): detected in 1 case.

-Whitestar potato (Ipomoea lacunose): detected in 1 case.

- Humpbacked fly (Megaselia scalaris): detected in 1 case.

- Field dodder (Cuscuta spp): detected in 5 cases.
