Rosselkhoznadzor Took Part in Online Meeting of Standing Group of Experts on Lumpy Skin Disease in Asia and the Pacific under GF TADs Umbrella

and Phytosanitary Surveillance Nikita Lebedev and specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor-subordinate
Federal Center for Animal Health took part in an online meeting of the Standing
Group of Experts on Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in the Asia-Pacific region under
the umbrella of GF TADs in September. The aim of the meeting was to discuss
issues of LSD diagnosis, epizootology and control in the Asia-Pacific countries.
The meeting was attended by veterinarians and scientists of
the participating countries, as well as the counries’ delegated representatives
in the region such as India, Bangladesh, Taiwan, Nepal, Australia and others.
Following the agenda, the representatives of the
participating countries reported on deterioration of the LSD epidemic situation
in the region and the approaches used for disease control. Representatives of
Taiwan and India reported on identification of vaccine-like virus isolates of
this disease, which are genetically related to the vaccine-like isolate of the
LSD virus detected in the PRC near the border with the Republic of Kazakhstan in

highlighted the risks of using homologous vaccines for implementation of
vaccination program in these countries and noted the importance of coordinating
and consolidating efforts to jointly study and prevent spread of vaccine-like
isolates of the LSD virus in the region.
