The Rosselkhoznadzor held a videoconference with Director General of Directorate General for Animal Health, Food Safety and Nutrition of Italy Silvio Borello on July 16.
The negotiations were also attended by the representatives of the FGBI “All Russia State Center for Animal Feed and Drug Quality and Standardization” and the Rosselkhoznadzor-subordinate FGBI “Federal Center for Animal Health”, as well as experts of the Experimental Institute of Zooprophylaxis of the Lazio and Tuscany regions in Italy (IZSLT).
The parties discussed the issues of GMO circulation and regulation in feed for non-productive animals in the Russian Federation.
It should be reminded that in the framework of the agreement on mutual cooperation between Russia and Italy, concluded in September 2019, there is exchange of data in terms of laboratory control and methods.
During the meeting it was noted that there is a need for compliance with the legislation of the Russian Federation regarding the maximum permissible levels of GMO content in feed (not exceeding 0.5%). In accordance with Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 23, 2013 No. 839, genetically modified foods are subject to state registration only after the state registration of the GMOs, the foods are derived from or contain.
To date, not a single genetically modified organism used for the production of feed and feed additives for animals has been registered on the territory of the Russian Federation.
