The Rosselkhoznadzor Took Part in the Meeting of Working Group on Agriculture of Russian and Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation

The Meeting of the Working Group on Agriculture of the Russian and Hungarian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation was held on January 28 in Budapest under the chair of Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin and Hungarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sandor Farcas. Vasily Lavrovsky, Adviser to the Head, represented the Rosselkhoznadzor at the meeting.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed basic issues of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, devoted to increase in mutual agricultural good and food product turnover, establishment of joint agricultural holdings, interrelations in veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance, research and extension of business contacts.

It was noted that the Rosselkhoznadzor and Hungarian National Agency for Food Safety have a common understanding. Close cooperation between surveillance authorities makes it possible for Hungarian agricultural producers to retain the access to a large and highly competitive Russian market of breeding young cattle and poultry, animal feeds, corn and sunflower seeds as well as horticultural and ornamental crops for planting.

Several technical issues, concerning the results of the recent inspection of breeding farms and quarantine sites in Hungary were addressed; based on the results of this inspection the report, containing the list of observed deficiencies, followed by temporary restrictions on export from two establishments, was sent to the Hungarian party. The Hungarian veterinary service will send its comments to the report and will take actions to correct the identified violations.

The Hungarian party was satisfied with the conclusion of the Rosselkhoznadzor on positive results of another pre-shipment inspection of planting material consignment to be exported to Russia, as this will allow to timely ship it.

The parties acknowledged that further steps aimed at easier access of agricultural products to Russian and Hungarian markets are linked with the solution of systemic issues of interrelations between Russian and Hungarian surveillance authorities, when unilateral concessions are impossible.

At the end of the negotiations the Russian delegation was welcomed by Hungarian Minister of Agriculture István Nagy. During a brief talk, the Minister assured that Hungarian party is focused on the development of further cooperation in agriculture and establishment of a constructive dialogue.
