On September 4, on the sidelines of the V Eastern Economic Forum, a meeting between the representatives of the Russian Federation Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan was held.
The Russian party was headed by Russian Federation Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sergey Levin, the Japanese party – by Vice-Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan Osawa Makoto.
The representatives of the Rosselkhoznadzor led by Deputy Head of the Federal Service Konstantin Savenkov also participated in the said meeting.
In the course of the meeting, Konstantin Savenkov thanked the Japanese colleagues for the inspection of Russian poultry product establishments and producers of ready-to-eat pork products conducted by Japanese specialists, as well as for evaluation undertaken with respect to the principles of Russian Federation regionalization for avian influenza in the context of the Bryansk and Tula Oblasts.
Besides, the Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor said that the Russian side looked forward to the decision of the Committee of Animal Health of Japan regarding the access of Russian poultry products to the Japanese market.
Konstantin Savenkov also informed the Japanese colleagues that in May 2019 the Russian Federation had regained its status of a country having an FMD free zone where vaccination is not practised. In this regard, a hope was expressed that the foreign colleagues would take that fact into account when considering the possible access of Russian beef and pork to the Japanese market. Konstantin Savenkov invited the Japanese colleagues to visit Russia in order to inspect establishments producing the mentioned products.
