Republic of Mozambique Delegation Finalized its Familiarization with Russian System of Grain and Grain Product Quality and Safety Control

On August 30, the Rosselkhoznadzor held negotiations with the delegation from the Republic of Mozambique, headed by Antonia Augusto Vaz Tombolane, Head of the National Plant Protection Organization under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of the Republic of Mozambique. 

Representatives of the Russian MoA also took part in the meeting. 

The event was devoted to the finalization of the Mozambican delegation familiarization with quarantine condition, quality and safety of grain and grain products. 

The working trip of the delegation to Russia started on August 26. Within a week the Mozambican specialists visited the Novorossiysk Branch of the FGBI “Grain Quality Assessment Centre” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor, safety and quality testing laboratory of the  FGBI “Grain Quality Assessment Centre” (Moscow Oblast) and FGBI “VNIIKR”. In the course of the final meeting the delegation give a high appraisal of the Russian system used to ensure phytosanitary control, quality and safety of grain and grain products and noted state-of-art equipment of the institutions, subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor. 

Besides the foreign specialists familiarized themselves with the operation of the Novorossiysk sea commercial port, Novorossiysk grain terminal, Novorossiysk bread plant where they could see the grain export dispatch procedure as well as grain sampling for quality, safety and phytosanitary condition. 

The Mozambican team informed about its interest in increase in imports of Russian grain.

For reference: according to the Federal Customs Service export of Russian wheat to Mozambique reached 91.3 thousand tons for 7 months of 2019, herewith the total annual volume of wheat imported by the Republic of Mozambique is about 650 thousand tons.

Besides the Mozambican specialists expressed their interest in export of plant products to Russia (bananas, mangoes, avocados, litchis, etc.). In this regard, the Rosselkhoznadzor submitted common quarantine phytosanitary requirements for quarantine products and pests, checked at the border and in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, approved by Decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council No. 157 of November 30, 2016 as well as the common list of EAEU quarantine pests, approved by Decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council No. 158 of November 30, 2016. 

The delegation representatives expressed their interest in training of Mozambican specialists at the FGBI “VNIIKR” subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor and purchase of pheromone traps, produced by this institution.

The foreign specialists thanked the Russian party for the visit and expressed their hope to continue cooperation.
