Sergey Dankvert Held Working Meeting with Delegation of European Commission

The meeting of the Rosselkhoznadzor representatives headed by Sergey Dankvert and extended delegation of the European Union was held in Moscow on July 16. During the negotiations the European party was headed by Acting Director of Directorate D, Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) of the European Commission Matthew Hudson. The aim of the talks was to discuss topical issues of cooperation in the veterinary and phytosanitary field. The representatives of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia also took part in the meeting.

Speaking about mutual deliveries of livestock products, Sergey Dankvert stressed that it is time for the countries to move away from their outdated control measures for such products and move towards the integration of electronic systems. In the opinion of the Rosselkhoznadzor this will allow to make deliveries as transparent as possible, as well as substantially save the time resources.

Taking into account that trade between our countries should be mutual, the Rosselkhoznadzor reiterated its request to DG SANTE to provide, with reference to current international plant quarantine legislation, a scientific substantiation of the 19-year ban on import of a number of Russian plant products ( including conifers, potatoes, ornamental plants, fruit seedlings), introduced by Annex VI of Directive 2000/29/EC and Regulation 2016/2031 of December 14, 2019 that replaces it, on prolongation restrictions, as well as the conditions for their lifting in mutual trade in strict accordance with the provisions of international standards for phytosanitary measures.
