Mass Selling of Seeds and Planting Material of Unverified Quality

The Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for the Primorsky Krai detected 53 cases of selling seedlings and vegetable seeds of questionable quality. Administrative proceedings were initiated in all 53 cases.

During monitoring of the planting material and seeds sold at unregulated roadside markets specialists of the Rosselkhoznadzor Seed Control Department for the Primorsky Krai detected 53 cases of selling seedlings and vegetable seeds of unverified quality and origin.

During the monitoring sellers of seedlings and seed material working at the roadside markets had no necessary documents certifying the origin and quality of the products. There were no production labels and no information was provided on seed variety, sowing qualities and sell-by dates.

As documents certifying origin and quality of the planting material and seeds are absent, there is a great possibility that the bought seedlings will not emerge or strike roots, as it is noted by the Department for safe pesticide and agrochemical circulation monitoring, safety and quality of planting material and seeds. In addition to it, it is possible to introduce quarantine objects with the planting material thus causing a severe economic damage to agricultural producers.
