On November, 27 Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert met with Head of the OIE Regional Representation in Moscow Kazimir Lukuskas.
Kazimir Lukauskas expressed gratitude to Sergey Dankvert from Director of the World Animal Health Organization Monique Eloit for the high level of organization of her visit to Russia, which allowed to become fully acquainted with the activities in the field of dangerous animal disease control carried out by the authority. Being on a visit in Moscow at the beginning of October of the current year Mrs. Eloit visited the “Golden Autumn” International Agricultural Exhibition, took part in the official opening of the OIE Regional Representation in Russia and also visited the Rosselkhoznadzor subordinate Federal Center for Animal Health whose activities are highly appreciated.
Kazimir Lukauskas noted that the OIE is extremely concerned about the widespread occurrence of ASF in China, and therefore considers it necessary as quickly as possible to unite the effort of the world’s best veterinary institutes to develop a vaccine against this disease. The representative of the organization suggested that Sergey Dankvert should include the Federal Center for Animal Health in these activities.
Kazimir Lukauskas said that the OIE is currently developing the World Outbreak Alert System for contagious animal diseases and would like to involve the Rosselkhoznadzor specialists with successful experience in creating information programs in the field of veterinary medicine. A meeting on this issue will be held in Paris on December, 12.
Mr. Lukauskas also addressed to Sergey Dankvert with a request to send a representative from the Rosselkhoznadzor to participate in the Sixth meeting of the Task Force of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe, which will be held on December, 17-18 in Bern, Switzerland, as well as in the OIE Session of the EAEU country-members, which will be held in Moscow on December 12.
The purpose of the events is to develop a consolidated position of the European countries on the issue of animal welfare through the exchange of knowledge, increasing level of communication and harmonization of legislation.
Sergey Dankvert agreed on the expediency of implementing all the proposed initiatives.
In conclusion Kazimir Lukauskas said that he was leaving his position at the OIE Regional Office in Moscow and stressed that he would introduce his successor by the end of this year.
