According to the reports of the Territorial Administration of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Voronezhskaya and Volgogradskaya Oblasts and the Veterinary Department of the Administration of the Volgogradskaya Oblast, on November 20, 2010 the SI Volgogradskaya Regional Veterinary Laboratory made a preliminary diagnosis of African swine fever (further ASF) according to the results of the examination of the pathological material taken from dead pigs from a private backyard in the settlement Zimnyatskiy, the Serafimovichskiy Rayon, the Volgogradskaya Oblast.
On November 20, 2010 the material was sent to the SRI “ARRIVV&M” for confirmation of the diagnosis. The diagnosis was confirmed on November 21, 2010 according to the results on the laboratory tests.
There had been 55 pigs in the private backyard, 12 of them died in the period from November 17 to 22, 2010.
The ASF-affected settlement was quarantined according to the Regulation of the Head of the Serafimovichskiy Municipal Rayon No. 913 of November 20, 2010. A veterinary police post was set up, the territory of the farm has been enclosed by a ditch, transportation of pigs outside the farm was prohibited, and special places for burning of pigs and disposal of animal remains were designated.
Specialists of the Veterinary Authority of the Volgogradskaya Oblast and the Territorial Administration of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Voronezhskaya and Volgogradskaya Oblasts were delegated for rendering assistance in organization of antiepidemic measures and determination of the source and routes of introduction of ASF virus into the affected area.
