Rosselkhoznadzor Takes Part in the 26th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe

The session was held from the 22nd to the 26th of September in Bern. Representatives of national veterinary services from most countries of the region and representatives of regional and international organizations and industrial animal health associations took part in the conference.

Since spread of African swine fever is one of the most acute issue for the European region, a meeting was held on the sidelines of the conference between representatives of the veterinary services from ASF-affected countries and administration of the international organizations ensuring animal disease control. The sides came to a conclusion that ASF situation is getting worse and the only effective way to control the situation is to consolidate their efforts.

In addition to it, the sides discussed spread of such dangerous transboundary diseases as FMD. The OIE countries came to the conclusion that in order to control the dangerous disease it is required to focus efforts on regional cooperation programmes especially taking into account growing risks of FMD introduction to Europe from Central Asia, the Middle East and Northern Africa.

The parties also discussed problems related to spread of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED). The disease agent is currently circulating in pig populations of South-East Asia, Central and North Americas. Taking into account wide economic ties and significant trade turnover with the countries from the above-mentioned regions the disease poses evident risks for the European countries. At the end of the discussion the parties made a number of conclusions related to PED control and prevention of its introduction.
